I just wanted to take a moment to blow off some steam. After a relatively easy period of making OM-MINUS tracks, including some decent one-click tracks, I’ve stepped back over to Way of the Waifu and rediscovered how hard it can be to make a song with lyrics. I’m sure I’ve done well over a couple hundred generations trying to get the right sound for the second song on the next album. I’ve thrown every trick I can think of at it, over and over again, and I haven’t gotten the right sound. Or the right vocal delivery, and usually not the right pace. I’m not convinced Treblo can do faster-paced vocals yet, it’s dropping or distorting lines whenever the beats-per-minute gets high. But, the first thing is to get the right sound. I’ve got to have it. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t mean a whole lot. One of the amazing things about getting older is looking back at the absolute titans of my youth and realizing how quickly their importance went away. How many people know a Bee Gees song these days? I must know a couple, but, off the top of my head, I can’t put the song and the band together. Same with the Eagles, or Boston. Who remembers Peter Cetera? Go back another twenty years, I’d guess the only singer anyone younger than Gen X would have a chance of knowing is Elvis. Maybe Chuck Berry or Little Richard. Buddy Holly? I doubt it. Anyone else, might as well have never existed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My high-water tracks haven’t exactly set the world on fire, but, I need the next track to be on par with them. I’ve got about 12-20 tracks, but most are instrumental tracks that don’t represent the signature sound I’m going for – like Bikini Dreilide’s Garage, or R Kelly in P Major (rap version) . I’ve got a good idea of what I want to hear with the guitar, and the vocal delivery, but coaxing it out of the A.I. is another matter entirely. It could “just happen,” but usually it won’t. I’ve listened to hundreds of takes that come across as mocking perversions of what I want. One of these days I’ll happen across the right combination of inputs. This isn’t the first track that was difficult. But, all things in perspective. Most of the hits of the past are forgotten today.
